RABBIT- ZOOLOGIST

Tonight, the air is green with clover, hay
and small tufts of grass carried by the breeze,
unstable ground, dusty mysteries
rabbits digging tunnels in the darkness. They wander
in the meadow, sniff the wind, bouquet
of violets. They hop in twos or threes,
their shadows with cottony tails. Or they freeze
when something feathery screams in the distance.
They stand like tufted stones. But now, the night
becomes sweet and gentle with jasmine. A scent
of petals presses against their fur. There are fruits
to eat. There is the thrilling pleasure
of digging the earth, sediment
of dreams scented with carrots and roots.
