An essential part of Boadicea the Victorious’s DNA is, of course, the rebellious story of the heroine Boadicea, warrior queen of the Iceni, which inspired our luxurious and bold fragrances. Much of what we do and create echoes the story of this extraordinary queen, her rebellious spirit and her individuality in the face of Roman and patriarchal oppression. Boadicea the Victorious carries on this legacy with Lannosea, named after one of Boadicea’s two daughters.

Lannosea is a new kind of fragrance in the Boadicea range, an exploration of contrasts, of darkness and light, of sweetness and savagery. A perfume that slowly reveals its secrets as you savor a mosaic of unique and original materials.

The key to Lannosea is a sunny candied lemon accord, both thirst-quenching and illuminating, thanks to its combination of tart notes and tangy sea salt. In culinary terms, the preserve is made from only two ingredients: unwaxed, washed lemons, and good-quality sea salt. The lemons are cut almost to the end on one side, generously rubbed with salt and placed in sterilized Kilner jars. Boiling distilled water is poured over them, then left to cool before being sealed and stored in a cool, dark place.

The fruit undergoes a magical transformation, the rind becoming translucent and tender, paling to the color of dried sunflower petals, full of a sweet-bitter astringency infused with salt. There is nothing comparable to the taste and aroma of candied lemons, which are used in salads, stews and tagines. This beautifully crafted accord explodes from the top notes and, while it mellows and softens, its impact lasts to the final moments of Lannosea.

This addictive lemon is the perfect complement to Kholas dates, an elite fruit with a butter-caramel flavor and the plush texture of golden syrup. Rum brings a vanilla-aged note that links to the heart notes, subtly flavored with sparkling pink pepper and bergamot.

Another important ingredient is Litsea Cubeba, sometimes called May Chang or oil of tranquility, referring to this plant’s reputation in herbal medicine for promoting physical relaxation and mental well-being. Historically, Litsea Cubeba was mixed with almond oil and used to anoint the body before worship rituals and prayers. Its scent is herbaceous and lively, with rubbed-citrus notes and a hint of crushed lemongrass. It pairs wonderfully with candied lemon and the boozy textures of dried fruits.

Coffee adds shade and an earthy sweetness as Lannosea’s heart develops on the skin. Sunlit orange blossom and the intoxicating inflorescence of elderflower mingle with the resinous presence of balsam fir turpentine and leathery woods in the base. A patented molecule called Smokewood dominates the base notes, spiraling around guaiac wood, oak and the amber-animal notes of resinous labdanum.
